When is the Grand Opening For iluma Mall?
Construction Should Be Completed By End of Year 2009

The 10-Story iluma Mall, with its artsy design and clashing orange counterpart, opened back in March of 2009. However, according to a response to a call placed to the office of Jack Investment, owner and manager, on September 12, 2009, the date of the official grand opening has yet to be determined. A grand opening will give this shopping center the hype that it needs and should not be delayed much further.
The mall got off to a very slow start in March, when shoppers were confused by the continuing construction, unaware that the building was actually open. The large Coffee Bean located at the front of the mall on the second floor was the first sign of what the building actually was. Only after a walk over, at that time, did one discover what existed in the vast space.
Construction of Pedestrian Bridge Will Increase Consumer Flow
The construction of the pedestrian bridge is still a bit of an eyesore, but hopefully will be completed by year's end. It's bound to attract shoppers that are already located in the Bugis Junction Mall, increasing pedestrian flow.
"Besides having more tenants, the completion of a link bridge from Bugis Junction at the end of the year may drive more shoppers to iluma, says Ms. Han [Business Developer Director at Jack Investment]. There will also be retail space on the 53-metre bridge, with a net rentable area of around 3,800 sq ft.," according to the August 15, 2009 Business Times article "More Lights Up At iluma."
What is Available at iluma Mall?
The mall is currently at 90% tenant capacity, according to the spokesperson for Jack Investment. Some of the most appealing places within the mall, include: the Filmgarde Cineplex, with its JBL 3-way sound system, who will be hosting the Singapore International Film Festival's Silver Screen Awards later this year; Arcadia by Tornado with cyber-gaming; and, Seven at ILuma, which is a dance club located on the seventh floor. The mall is mostly filled with small, somewhat trendy shops, eateries and other retailers.
Space remains available on the first and second levels of the mall. Jack Investment is looking for unique tenants, admitting that they are being "'experimental,'" according to the Business Times article.
Competition: Numerous Malls in Singapore
There are over 250 shopping malls in Singapore, including the excessive ION Orchard that recently opened. It's risky to open a new mall at this time with the economy the way it is. However, locals and foreigners love to shop in Singapore. The iluma Mall is in a good location in Bugis. Nevertheless, more advertising with a nice grand opening will finally turn people's eyes toward iluma.
